Mark Blundell

Mark Blundell first tried motor racing at the age of fourteen but rather than having four wheels he chose two. Mark raced motocross and was quickly successful fast rising the ranks to become one of Britain’s best. When Brundell turned seventeen he swapped to four wheels and raced in Formula Ford.

Once again Blundell quickly rose to the top coming second in just his first season in both British championships. Along the way Blundell netted 25 wins and 24 poles. The next year Blundell went on to win the Snetterton and British Esso championships before upgrading the following year to a drive in FF2000 where he won the BBC Grandstand series. Whilst doing this Blundell also competed the FF1600 finishing fourth overall.

Stirling Moss

Stirling Moss is known as one of the greatest drivers never to win a championship and although coming close on several occasions, both the points systems and mechanical problems played there parts.

In 1951 Moss joined HWM after a quick rising through the junior ranks and although he showed some signs of skill and pace he struggled while in under performing cars for the first few years. In 1954 Moss made a choice to drive a privately owned Maserati which paid off as he gained a third in Spa and was signed by the Silver Arrows team of Mercedes for the 1955 season partnering the world champion Juan Manuel Fangio.

Jim Clark

Jim Clark was one of Formula One’s best loved champions and his early death robbed the sport of not just an unbelievable talent but of an admirable and likeable Scotsman.

Despite his ability to dominate a race car, out of it Jim Clark was a vulnerable and reluctant to embrace the limelight. It may be for these quiet, and understated qualities that the public remember Clark with such fondness.

Born in 1936 Clark grew up on the family farm in Scotland, a long way from the hectic lifestyle of the big cities and F1 paddock. It was on these fields of the farm that Clark first go behind the wheel of a car (without parental consent). At 17, Clark gained his driving licence and used the money he worked from working on the farm to buy a Sunbeam Talbot.

James Hunt

James Hunt was F1′s wild child and life was always lived to the limit. In 92 F1 entries Hunt accumulated 14 pole positions, 10 race wins and a word championship showing that not only was he pushing the boundaries in his personal life, but he could push a Formula One car to it’s and his limits too.

James Hunt was born on August 29th 1947 to the family of a stockbroker. As a child he was hyperactive and difficult and rebellious. All the while Hunt was able to teach himself tennis and squash and play at a high standard. But it would be racing cars where Hunt would really excel but not without some initial difficulty. Another area Hunt was well known to excel would be woman.

Phil Hill born in Miami on the 20th April 1927 became a very successful sports car driver who’s credits included the Le Mans, but in 1958 he turned his career towards F1 and competed in his first race at the French GP.
