McLaren MP4-18 – the car that never raced

The McLaren MP4-18 was intended to be the championship contender for the 2003 F1 Championship. The car was designed during  disappointing 2002 season and McLaren principle Ron Dennis decided that a radical approach was needed to take McLaren back to the top.

Come 2003 the car was not in a state where it was ready to race so the team opted for a highly advanced version of the 2002 chassis the MP4-17D to start the season. The MP4-18 proved unreliable as it suffered severe issues with regards to cooling the engine, in the most part, due to the narrow sidepods of the car.

Lola

Mastercard Lola T97/30

1997 saw two notable new teams enter Formula 1. But oh how did they differ.

Jackie Stewart alongside son Paul launched Stewart Grand Prix which featured works backing from Ford and sponsorship from HSBC and Malaysia. Results were mixed but a strong finish at Monaco saw Barrichello finish second and the team were constant mid-field runners.

Lola had backing from Mastercard albeit on an obscure arrangement which was based on both results (hard to come by for a new team at the best of times) and a subscriptions. It was with Mastercard that the problems for Lola began and quickly snowballed in to near demise for the company.

Rubbish F1 drivers!

F1 is the pinnacle of world motor sport. The best teams, the best sponsors, the best equipment and the best drivers. Okay that isn’t strictly true. F1 has had it’s fair share of terrible drivers, non paying sponsors and teams that are simply comical!

We take a look at the worst F1 drivers and believe it or not it was very difficult to keep the list to just 10. F1 has had it’s fair share of mediocre to just out right rubbish drivers.
